From installation to industry strategy.
Giles Benbow has spent his career close to the point where ambition becomes infrastructure. Trained as an electrician, he founded an electrical contracting business at nineteen before moving into solar, renewable energy and, in 2012, electric vehicle charging.
That practical foundation has shaped more than a decade of work across the EV sector. Giles has developed charging businesses, advised customers on complex infrastructure programmes and held senior commercial and partnership roles in leading electrification organisations, including Actemium and Mer.
His experience spans workplace, destination, fleet and depot charging—with a particular focus on the realities of commercial and heavy-vehicle electrification. He understands the full decision: what the operation needs, what the energy system can support, how the commercial model works and what it will take to deliver.
Giles is known for making technical and commercial complexity understandable. He brings the curiosity of an entrepreneur, the discipline of an operator and the empathy to align boards, partners and delivery teams around a practical way forward.
OPTEV is the expression of that experience: independent advice for organisations that want to move beyond electrification headlines and make well-judged, durable progress.
